Do Schools Kill Creativity?

Not sure if any of you remember this video from EDC1300. I’m sure if you do, you’re probably shuddering at the thought of that class haha!

In the video Sir Ken Robinson states that we are running education centers where mistakes are the worst thing you can make. It’s his belief that If you’re not prepared to be wrong, you’ll never come up with anything original and sadly we are educating students out of their creative capacities. It was interesting how Alysha blogged about how her perceptions of herself as an uncreative person. i wonder if she felt like this when she was 4 years old?

However, I believe that the hero of this sad fairy tale is our old friend, ICT’s! I When implemented in an exciting manner where children are given choices they can totally transform a child’s creative capacities. Mistakes and problems in ICT’s are bound to happen but they provide perfect opportunities for a class to collaboratively solve them by pooling their knowledge and skills.

I think this example perfectly illustrates the saying that no one works harder than a curious child!
